Most users have to remember several passwords to gain access to their critical applications, often resulting in passwords being written down, passwords being forgotten, or password being shared with multiple recipients. All these practices lead to insecure systems and high cost due to the volume of support calls IT help desks receive due to password resets.
Single Sign-On (or Reduced Sign-On) can solve this by giving users access to critical applications once that user has authenticated using strong authentication. Reduced Sign-On can ease the burden on help desks, while enhancing the user experience, and maintaining high levels of security.
PortWise allows users to access critical resources once authenticated using either Persistent-based or Session-based Reduced Sign-On.
| • |
Persistent-based Reduced Sign-On: allows the administrator to define what credentials are stored for future use, so the user does not have to enter them every time they start a new session. |
| • |
Session-based Reduced Sign-On: caches the user credentials during the user session. Upon session completion the cached credentials are removed. |
