Authorization to Access Applications

Access decisions are not just simple allow entry or deny entry policies, but should reflect a number of different characteristics for granular access control. PortWise features a sophisticated access policy engine to determine what a user should gain access to, including:

  • User Device – Grants access based on device type, e.g. PDA, Laptop, PC, etc.
  • Authentication Level – Grants access based on authentication level, e.g. two-factor or one-factor. Learn more >>
  • User Role – Grants access based on who the user is (e.g. marketing, sales, engineering, finance, or employee, partner, customer).
  • Network – Grants access based on whether or not the network is trusted or unknown.

  • Point of Entry – Grants access based on which PortWise Access Point is used (e.g. London, New York, Tokyo)
  • Wireless Connection – Grants access based on wired or wireless network.

PortWise can use one or more of these access decisions to grant a user access, allowing for very granular policies.
